The MARAL saffron guide
Everything you need to use Persian Super Negin saffron beautifully—from the first bloom to the final golden dish.
Begin with Blooming
The essential first step
Rather than adding dry threads directly to a dish, gently steep them first. This simple ritual draws out the luminous gold and floral depth held inside every thread.
Use approximately three to five threads per serving, or a generous pinch for a family-size dish.
Lightly crush the threads with a mortar and pestle to increase the surface area.
Cover with two to three tablespoons of warm—not boiling—water or milk.
Steep for 10–15 minutes, then add both the infusion and threads to your recipe.
The highest grade
Super Negin saffron is distinguished by long, unbroken crimson threads, minimal yellow style and an expressive balance of color, aroma and flavor.
A little goes a long way
One precious ingredient
Fold bloomed saffron into rice, paella, risotto, marinades, soups and stews.
Add the golden infusion to tea, warm milk, lemonade, mocktails and iced drinks.
Bloom in warm milk or cream for cakes, cookies, custards and ice cream.
Transform honey, butter and simple morning drinks with a fragrant saffron touch.
Recognize quality
Deep crimson color with minimal yellow.
Long, intact threads that feel dry and slightly brittle.
Floral, honeyed aroma with gentle earthy notes.
Slow color release over 10–15 minutes while the threads remain red.
Protect every thread
A tightly closed jar in a dark pantry protects saffron from air, heat and moisture. Refrigeration is unnecessary. For the most expressive color and aroma, enjoy within two years.

Good to know
Yes. Bloom the threads in a small amount of warm water first, then cool the infusion before adding it to iced tea, lemonade or other cold drinks.
It does not spoil like fresh food, but its color, aroma and flavor gradually diminish. Store it correctly and use it within two years for the best experience.
Authentic saffron slowly releases a luminous golden-amber color. An immediate bright red or orange release can be a sign of added color.
Saffron has been used as a culinary spice for thousands of years. Use it in normal culinary quantities and consult a healthcare professional if you have specific medical concerns.
